2015 new national standard for air purifiers: CADR (clean air volume), CCM (cumulative purification volume), energy efficiency level, noise four core indicators

Apr. 15, 2022

In recent years, the continuous development of haze weather has led to the continuous development of the air purifier market. In order to ensure breathing health, consumers will buy more affordable air purifiers. Some companies often exaggerate the purification effect through false advertisements such as 99% cleaning efficiency. For this reason, the state officially implements the national standard for air purifiers to ensure consumers' breathing health and provide a clear reference for the public to buy air purifiers.

On September 15, 2015, the National Standards Committee approved and issued a new national standard for air purifiers. In the new national standard, the impact on consumers is to clearly stipulate the four core indicators that affect the purification effect of air purifiers and product signs and labels: CADR (clean air volume), CCM (cumulative purification volume), energy efficiency grade , four core indicators of noise.

1.CADR:CADR refers to the amount of purified air, which refers to the total amount of purified air output by the purifier after one hour of filtration. The unit is m3/h, including particulate matter CADR and formaldehyde CADR. The concept was developed by the Association of American Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) according to rigorous testing standards. Refers to the ratio of clean air output by the air purifier. The higher the CADR value, the higher the purification efficiency of the purifier. The new national standard requires all air purifiers to indicate the CADR value of the product on the product label.

2.CCM:The cumulative purification capacity CCM is the parameter of the cumulative purification capacity of the air purifier for the target pollutants (particulate matter and gas pollutants) under the rated state and the specified test conditions. The total weight of the substance (particulate matter or formaldehyde) in mg. The larger the CCM value, the longer the service life of the air purifier filter.

For formaldehyde in indoor air, the service life of the purification material can also be estimated based on the CCM value. Similarly, the larger the CCM value, the longer the service life of the air purifier filter.

3. Energy efficiency grade: The amount of clean air produced by the unit power consumption of the air purifier in the rated state, the unit is m3/W-h. Refers to the degree of energy saving and power saving, and it is possible to know whether the purifier saves electricity or not by using it.

4. Noise: The new national standard stipulates that the maximum allowable value of the noise index of the air purifier is 70dB. The noise of the air purifier and the air suction volume are a pair of contradictions. The greater the power, the greater the suction volume and the greater the noise.

Summary: A good air purifier = high CADR value + high CCM (formaldehyde + particles) + low noise + qualified energy efficiency
