(1) High elasticity
The elastic modulus of rubber products is small, generally in the range of 1 to 9.8 MPa. The elongation deformation is large, the elongation rate can be as high as 1000%, and it still shows the characteristics of recovery, and can maintain elasticity in a wide temperature range (-50 ~ 150 ℃).
(2) Viscoelasticity
Rubber products are viscoelastic. Due to the presence of intermolecular forces, rubber products are subject to external forces. When the deformation occurs, it is affected by time, temperature and other conditions, showing obvious stress relaxation and creep phenomena.
(3) Buffer shock absorption
Rubber products have a moderating effect on sound and vibration and transmission, and this feature can be used to prevent noise and vibration.
(4) Electrical insulation
Rubber products are electrical insulating materials like plastics, and the volume resistivity of natural rubber products and butyl rubber products can reach more than 1015Ω?cm.
(5) Temperature dependence
Polymer materials are generally affected by temperature. Rubber products become hard and brittle in a glass state at low temperatures, and soften, melt, thermally oxidize, thermally decompose and even burn at high temperatures.
(6) With aging phenomenon
Like metal corrosion, wood decay, and rock weathering, rubber products will age due to changes in environmental conditions, deteriorating performance and shortening life.
(7) Must be vulcanized
Rubber products must be added with sulfur or other substances that can vulcanize (or cross-link) rubber products, so that the macromolecules of rubber products can be cross-linked into a spatial network structure, in order to obtain rubber products with use value.
In addition, it should be noted that thermoplastic rubber products do not have to be vulcanized.In addition, rubber products have low density and are lightweight materials with low hardness and good softness; poor air permeability, which can be used as air-tight materials; or good waterproof materials, etc. The application range of rubber product materials and rubber products is particularly wide, and the products may be as many as tens of thousands.
Therefore, at the beginning of the design of a rubber product, regardless of the formula or the mold, it is necessary to carefully calculate the coordination. If not, it is easy to produce unstable product dimensions, resulting in low product quality.
